With the growing emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, new applications such as small modular reactors (SMRs), energy storage and CO₂ turbines are coming to the fore. These modern technologies represent a significant step forward in the energy sector, and our steam turbines are designed to meet the specific requirements of these advanced applications.

Small Modular Reactors

Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) represent an innovative approach to nuclear power that promises significant cost and time savings during construction and greater operational flexibility compared to traditional large nuclear reactors. These compact and scalable units have the potential to play a key role in the future of clean energy.

Doosan Škoda Power has a product line of turbines for small nuclear units (SMRs) ready to meet the needs of its customers.

Energy Storage

In a modern world that uses renewable energy sources, it is crucial to tackle the problem of energy storage. In addition to our other activities, we are working on a thermo-mechanical energy storage system called the Carnot Battery for storing energy for grid stabilization purposes. Such devices store any excess energy in the grid and are able to quickly release it back during power shortages. We offer turbines that efficiently use the energy stored in the form of compressed or liquefied air (CAES or LAES technologies). Thanks to our own development center, we have experimentally tested air expansion technologies that achieve high efficiency. We can offer tailored turbines designed for these modern storage plants, but we can also supply downstream parts of these cycles.

Waste Heat Recovery

Doosan Škoda Power is dedicated to improving thermal energy cycles. We offer solutions such as flue gas heat exchangers, flue gas condensation or integration of heat pumps, etc. We use a wide network of professional subcontractors. We provide complete deliveries from feasibility studies to individual components in order to maximize the energy recovery of heat.

ORC

Doosan Škoda Power has developed its own ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) technology. We offer solutions for low and high temperature applications, pure condensing and simple heat recovery solutions. Our products include ORC cycles for primary sources (geothermal, biomass) and waste heat, and we specialize in obtaining secondary benefits of the entire system. We provide complete delivery, from feasibility studies to individual components, to maximize energy efficiency.

CO₂ Cycles

Doosan Škoda Power has developed a supercritical CO₂ turbine. Due to many years of development, the company is able to deliver a turbine for projects where the basic advantage of a very small footprint and higher thermal cycle efficiency is best applied.
Their typical application are retrofits of existing machine rooms, where the investment costs can be minimized due to the minimal impact of a supercritical CO₂ turbine on the building construction.
We also have expansion machines for post-critical CO₂, whose main role in the energy sector is mainly in the form of energy storage in compressed gas.
