Doosan Škoda Power employees dedicated one working day to supporting their local communities. A total of 94 volunteers supported 13 organisations. They lent a hand at kindergartens, schools, a hospital and an animal shelter, among other places. Day of Community Service is a long-standing part of the company’s autumn calendar and this year it was held on 14 October.

A total of 33 volunteers worked at schools and kindergartens. Most helped clean or improve outdoor areas so that children could enjoy clean, well-maintained gardens and playgrounds in the spring. At Kindergarten No. 25 on Ruská Street, for example, volunteers transported bark mulch and soil, weeded and trimmed ornamental shrubs. The kindergarten’s oldest children were delighted to join in, helping the volunteers finish the work more quickly. At Větvička Forest Kindergarten, volunteers also carried out gardening work and prepared firewood for the winter so the children would have somewhere to warm up.

Volunteers also supported a hospital and an intergenerational centre. Four employees donated blood at the University Hospital Plzeň, while another delivered books and coffee to inpatient wards as part of the Dobrokavárna (“Good Coffee”) and Dobroknihovna (“Good Library”) projects. At the TOTEM intergenerational centre, volunteers baked much-loved cookies and prepared materials for creative workshops, including wirework, beadwork and bracelet-making.

Richard Kabuď, HR Director of Doosan Škoda Power, said: "At Doosan, we have a long-standing commitment to work that has a positive impact on society. Much of this takes the form of major projects that help shape energy infrastructure in our country and abroad. But seemingly small actions are just as important to the world around us. Although local in scope, they can make a real difference to the lives of people in the communities where we operate. I am very grateful to all my colleagues who took part in this year’s Day of Community Service and went out to help wherever they were needed."

Animals also benefited from this year’s volunteer effort. As in previous years, Doosan Škoda Power employees volunteered at Plzeň Zoo and the local animal shelter. At the shelter, they helped improve the facilities and prepare for its open day. At the zoo, they split into small teams and, under the guidance of several of the zoo’s botanists, helped care for its green spaces.

Day of Community Service has long been part of Doosan Škoda Power’s corporate calendar. Apart from a brief pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has taken place every year since. The initiative gives employees the opportunity to dedicate one working day each year to a good cause of their choice.
