The Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea have established a ministerial governing board to coordinate the construction of new units at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant, which also held its first meeting today. Furthermore, additional contracts were signed, signifying the involvement of Czech companies in the project's supply chain. These concrete steps will strengthen Czech energy security by supporting adherence to the nuclear development schedule and budget, as well as high involvement of the Czech industry.
According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček, new nuclear resources at Dukovany are essential to ensure that Czech households and entrepreneurs have stable, affordable energy and that companies have predictable business conditions. This also applies to the potential implementation of necessary investments.
"We want the project to run according to schedule and stick to the budget. Therefore, Minister Kim and I have established a ministerial governing board, and we will continuously monitor the preparation and construction progress," says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček, adding: "Equally important is the strong involvement of Czech companies, which is supported by both the Korean government and KHNP. I welcome the conclusion of direct contracts for the turbine as well as for support in permitting and licensing. I will continue to advocate for Czech enterprises to have equal conditions and the highest possible share in the project and subsequent investments, which will bring jobs and further opportunities for domestic business."
"The Republic of Korea considers the Dukovany project a strategic partnership with the Czech Republic. We want to ensure effective cooperation between our governments and industries and a smooth project implementation process," says the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, Jung-Kwan Kim.
The Czech-Korean Ministerial Governing Board for the new Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant units launched its activities under the umbrella of the Supply Chain and Energy Dialogue. The board includes the ministers of industry of both countries, along with representatives of the supplier KHNP and the investor, the company Elektrárna Dukovany II.
"We consider the strong involvement of Czech companies in the construction of the new units important also for reasons of future operation and maintenance. Technologies from Czech suppliers represent a major advantage for the subsequent decades of the new power plant's operation and maintenance. For us, this means greater flexibility during outages and modernizations, faster reaction times in case of potential problems, and, above all, greater independence," says Petr Závodský, CEO of Elektrárna Dukovany II.
Based on a contract signed between KHNP and ÚJV Řež, ENERGOPROJEKT from the ÚJV Group will support permitting and licensing processes. Doosan Enerbility concluded a contract with the Pilsen-based Doosan Škoda Power for the supply of the turbine.
"The fact that the contract for the supply of the turbine, which is the heart of the power plant, was signed today is not only great news but also proof that the project is proceeding according to plan. This applies not only to the preparation of the new nuclear sources' construction but also to the involvement of Czech companies in this project," says Insik Park, Executive Vice President of KHNP for Overseas Projects, adding: "As of today, we have registered almost 160 companies currently in the registration process to become suppliers for the construction of Dukovany 5 and 6."
"Today's signing is an important start of cooperation between ENERGOPROJEKT PRAHA from the ÚJV Group and KHNP. Our long-term experience in design and permitting processes is valuable to the Korean side; this is essential during the preparation of the EDU II power plant to ensure it proceeds in compliance with Czech legislation and current international best practices," says Martin Ruščák, CEO of ÚJV Řež, regarding the contract signing.
"Within the framework of this historically largest project, I would like to express my deep appreciation to the Government of the Czech Republic, ČEZ, and KHNP for showing trust in the Doosan Group and entrusting us with the manufacture and supply of key equipment," says Seungwoo Sohn, Executive Vice President of Doosan Enerbility, adding: "Doosan Enerbility, together with Doosan Škoda Power, which is world-renowned for its top-tier manufacturing and comprehensive technical project execution, will dedicate their full potential to the successful completion of this project. We are fully committed to providing all necessary support and being a long-term and reliable partner to the Czech Republic."
"We greatly appreciate KHNP's decision that electricity production in the two new units of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant will be ensured by turbines designed by Czech engineers and manufactured in our Pilsen plant," says Daniel Procházka, CEO of Doosan Škoda Power, adding: "This is not only a show of confidence in our cutting-edge technology but also an important factor for the future safe operation and servicing of the turbines over the decades of the power plant's lifespan."
Today, the ministers also addressed broader Czech-Korean economic relations; in addition to nuclear energy, they discussed cooperation in the fields of investments, trade, and technology centers. The negotiations also included preparations for the next round of the Supply Chain and Energy Dialogue, as well as possibilities for cooperation in third-country markets. There was also a discussion regarding new sources at the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant and cooperation between the nuclear industries of both countries in science and research, as well as through a Czech exhibition at the Korean INEX trade fair or potential Korean participation in the International Engineering Fair in Brno.
Minister Jung-Kwan Kim visited Prague on February 15–16, 2026. The program included bilateral negotiations, the first meeting of the ministerial governing board for Dukovany, and the signing of contracts between the involved companies. He also met with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
