(February 18th, 2025; Pilsen, Czech Republic) – Doosan Škoda Power will supply a turbine for the new Pierrefonds waste-to-energy plant on the French island of Réunion. The company proudly announces the signing of a pivotal contract with PAPREC ENGINEERING, EPC entity of PAPREC Energy a key player in energy sector in France. The agreement includes the supply of a DST-G10 steam turbine with a 19 MW capacity, along with essential accessories such as a generator, gearbox and others. The contract also encompasses technical advisory services for erection and commissioning.
The single-casing DST-G10 steam turbine, designed to be mounted on a frame with an oil tank, gearbox, and insulation, is equipped with requisite instrumentation and other essential equipment. This skid solution provides significant benefits to the client by reducing the necessary on-site activities.
Initially, the contract for the supply was signed with the French company CNIM; however, the project was terminated in 2022. Under PAPREC’s leadership, the project has resumed, ensuring that key milestones are met for the successful completion of the Pierrefonds Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plant. “This is our first collaboration with PAPREC ENGINEERING, and we are delighted to have signed this contract after fruitful negotiations. We are pleased to continue this project after a two-year hiatus,” said Jindřich Závodný, Project Manager at Doosan Škoda Power. “The delivery of the equipment to Réunion is scheduled for April 2025, and we eagerly anticipate supporting our client during the construction activities.“
“After extensive discussions and negotiations, this agreement with Doosan Škoda Power represents a crucial milestone in advancing the Pierrefonds project,” said Christophe Buchot, Deputy Procurement Director at PAPREC ENGINEERING. “Reaching an agreement that ensured the timely release of equipment, effective management of guarantees, and comprehensive support for site activities was crucial for all parties involved and for the sucess of the project.”
The Pierrefonds WtE plant, developed by PAPREC ENERGIES for ILEVA, will process up to 148,000 tonnes of waste annually, generating 121,000 MWh of electricity—equivalent to the needs of 83,000 inhabitants, or 10% of Réunion’s population. The facility will also significantly reduce landfill dependency, with 130,000 tonnes of household waste being recovered instead of buried. The plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.
This is the third reference for Doosan Škoda Power on Réunion island, following the delivery of two 30 MW steam turbines to the biomass plant in the North of Réunion.
La Reunion is a French island located in the Indian Ocean approximately 950 km (590 miles) east of the island of Madagascar and 175 km (109 miles) southwest of the island of Mauritius.
