Synchronous condensers are used to control the main voltage and stabilize the grid’s frequency. These can be supplied in the form of a separate generator or with a flywheel – a mechanical device that increases the moment of inertia of the whole system. Doosan Škoda Power designs and supplies mechanical flywheels tailored to the specific requirements at the place of installation. A frame-mounted flywheel is fitted with all necessary accessories and can thus complement other applications. We also offer synchronous condensers as a complete product with both new and existing generators. Synchronous condensers are often combined with an air turbine.
